Bournemouth is where most of my week goes. It's a town of two very different cleaning problems: the properties near the front pick up salt film off the sea, which dulls glass far faster than ordinary road dirt, and the older terraces further in have deep bay windows with a lot of frame and sill that a quick wipe of the glass completely misses.
A water-fed pole handles both. Salt needs purified water to rinse away without leaving a film behind, and the pole gets into bay reveals and second-floor sashes without a ladder going anywhere near the brickwork.
What tends to need doing
Seafront and clifftop properties usually suit a four-weekly cycle rather than eight — salt builds up quickly and it's easier to stay on top of it than to recover it. Inland, eight weeks is normally plenty.
Gutters are the other Bournemouth job. There are a lot of mature pines around the town, and needles block a gutter faster than leaves do because they knit together into a mat that water can't get through.
